💬 Quote of the Day
“Christmas is the season of kindling the fire of hospitality.”
— Washington Irving
📘 Today’s Fact
The first commercially produced Christmas card was commissioned in London in 1843.
✅ Today’s Activity
Wrap one gift carefully and add a personal tag.

The timer uses your device timezone and updates every second. For a smaller version you can place on another website, use the embeddable Christmas countdown widget.

Set up a clear shared display

Open the countdown on the device connected to your screen, check its timezone and choose a readable browser zoom. Select Open fullscreen to request the browser’s fullscreen mode. Where that mode is unavailable, the page expands the countdown within the browser window. Use the exit control or Escape to return.

The timer follows the display device’s clock. A room showing a countdown for a different country should confirm the device timezone before starting. The page is not an alarm and does not promise an audible notification at midnight.

Before a class, party or shop display

  • Check that the numbers fit at the screen resolution you will use.
  • Choose a day or night theme with the theme control.
  • Pause snowfall if movement is distracting, or use the device’s reduced-motion setting.
  • Keep the device powered and review its screen-sleep setting for the session.

A browser may pause background work when the screen locks or the device sleeps. When it resumes, the timer calculates from the current time. An open page can continue counting after the initial load without another data request, but opening or reloading it still requires access to the website.

Use it as a short activity

Ask a group to read the same duration in days, hours and minutes, or compare the clock with the number of sleeps. The goal can be understanding how units fit together, rather than watching seconds pass for a long period. For younger children, a simple paper countdown may be easier to use independently.

For placement inside another website, use the countdown widget. The counting rules explain the difference between calendar days and complete 24-hour periods.

Initial date figures use +00:00, calculated 2026-10-01 12:18 GMT+0000. Live controls use your device timezone when JavaScript is available.
